Diebold Nixdorf and Mastercard are deepening their partnership with the announcement of a new collaboration focused on the development of a new banking-as-a-service solution.
At the project’s outset, its details are a bit vague. In a statement, the companies said they will offer “an industry-defining, managed solution” for banking and retail that will be based on Diebold Nixdorf AllConnect Services and Mastercard’s payment processing services. It will be offered on an “as a Service” model, the companies said.
The companies expect it to make use of Mastercard’s network switching capabilities and analytics for fraud detection, and that it will entail support for cardless transactions “authenticated by biometric or other processes” at ATMs. The latter is already very much in Diebold Nixdorf’s wheelhouse, with the company long having experimented with biometric ATMs including a recent prototype that can verify end users with facial recognition.
The newly announced collaboration will build upon a partnership on smartphone interface ATMs announced earlier this year, and the companies say that their new solution will be delivered to banking clients in the APAC region first, and retailers in the region afterwards, though a timeline for its launch has, of course, not yet been offered.
