Daon has launched xSentinel, a voice deepfake detection tool, as part of its AI.X platform. Primarily aimed at voice communication channels such as call centers, xSentinel is designed to scan for various cues that a given voice is AI-generated within seconds of the start of a call.
Daon first launched its AI.X platform in June of this year, as concern about the threat of AI-generated deepfakes was starting to rise sharply in the identity security space. AI.X also supports deepfake detection technology aimed at faces; at the time, Daon emphasized that it had been working on Presentation Attack Detection technology – which has direct applications in the fight against deepfakes – for eight years.
That commitment to research and development was reflected in the company’s most recent quarterly update, in which Daon reported that it had spent €750,663 on R&D in the fiscal quarter, up from €744,377 in the same period of 2022.
“Deepfakes pose a serious threat to the front line of defense against fraudsters — mostly for contact centers,” asserted Daon CEO Tom Grissen. “Implementing xSentinel gives businesses the tools to protect themselves and their customers from fraudsters now and in the future.”
Daon says its xSentinel system is capable of detecting deepfakes regardless of the language being spoken, and that it does not require enrolment on the part of the subject. Nor does it require the use of other Daon solutions, such as its IdentityX biometric identity platform.
“It detects attacks arising from the misuse of generative artificial intelligence, as part of the AI.X suite of tools for deepfake defense, enabling trust at any time, for any type of transaction, from anywhere,” Grissen said.
