New Daon Appointment May Hint at Stronger Government Focus

A former tech executive with some pretty substantial government experience is Daon‘s new President of Emerging Markets.

In the tech world, John Sanders may be best known as a co-founder of Reveal Imaging Technologies, which he led as VP from 2003 to 2010. More recently, he served as CEO of Pramantha Solutions, a government-focused data intelligence agency, from July of 2015 to June of 2018.

But it’s in the government sector where Sanders has held some of his highest-profile positions over the past several years. He was CTO of the US Department of Homeland Security from 2012 to 2014, and he returned to the government sector in July of 2018 to act as the COO of US Customs and Border Protection, ultimately attaining the position of Acting Commissioner this past April and leaving the post in July.

Sanders was also appointed to Daon’s board of directors.

In a statement announcing Sanders’ appointment as Daon’s President of Emerging Markets, the company’s CEO, Tom Grissen, called him “an accomplished leader” who “brings a breadth of proven performance from the private sector and government,” adding, “Daon is on the forefront of delivering identity solutions to the world’s most iconic brands, and John’s experience will complement the team as we continue to expand into new markets.”

For his part, Sanders complimented Daon on its technology and its personnel. “I believe Daon is well positioned to rapidly grow,” he said. “The company has a strong team of people, inspired leadership, and proven technology that holds solutions for a wide range of markets, including those in which I have deep experience.”

This may hint at a more government-focused direction for Daon after the company’s pioneering work in mobile biometric authentication for the financial services sector. In any case, Sanders is now a board member of not only Daon but also Evolv Technology; OGSystems, a tech solutions provider for the US intelligence sector; and American Science and Engineering, a provider of security solutions for government agencies including those involved in border control, law enforcement, and the military.
