“With our new PhotoVerify API, we are happy to offer online services yet another strong tool for hassle-free identity management and authentication.”— Ho Chang, CEO, BioID
The cloud biometrics company BioID has recently announced BioID PhotoVerify to simplify the process for online providers to use facial recognition to verify legal identities without registration in person or through a live video session. The multimodal biometrics service provider launched PhotoVerify as part of the BioID Web Service (BWS) and is now available.
The new technology promises a convenient and economical tool for many different online services such as: registration for online banking, electronic document signing, online renewal of identity documents and online examinations — without sacrificing privacy, costing a fortune, or including an overly complicated process.
The refined API uses two live facial images against an image from a photo ID. It works to ensure these images are actually that of a live person, not a previously recorded video or photo in order to prevent fraud. Without the hassle of registration or a costly external service, the verification process uses the ID photo and matches it to the live person.
To be human is to err, and that’s exactly what PhotoVerify is trying to escape by circumventing human error so common in manual ID proofing. The technology recognizes people tend to change their appearance from day-to-day, not to mention how live streaming can often be of poor quality.
In line with the company’s mandate to ensure anonymous biometric recognition, no biometric templates or photos are stored and all data is erased after the operation. With just a few lines of code, BioID PhotoVerify can be easily incorporated into existing services.
