Neurotechnology Upgrades Robot Navigation System

Neurotechnology has once again turned its machine learning AI technology to the field of robotics, announcing an upgraded SDK aimed at helping to develop autonomous robot navigation.

Called the SentiBotics Navigation Software Development Kit, the solution builds on the previously released SentiBotics Development Kit 2.0. It revolves around the use of a webcam and two ultrasonic range finders, and supports autonomous navigation across hundreds of meters.

With initial input from a user, a robot can start learning to establish navigational parameters for a given environment, using object recognition and obstacle detection to get around. The robot just needs to be run through a given course by the user first, and can start operating on its own within that environment soon thereafter, Neurotechnology says.

While Neurotechnology has made a name for itself as a provider of biometric technologies such as fingerprint, iris, and facial recognition, its solutions are built on a foundation of sophisticated artificial intelligence. And given that the company recently announced a new image recognition platform, an upgraded computer vision system for robots seems a natural next step.
