Lithuania-based biometric technology developer Neurotechnology has placed second in the world’s only public, independent test of fingerprint-matching algorithms. That would, of course, be the Minutiae Interoperability Exchange Test (MINEX) test issued by America’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
The test is designed to measure the performance and interoperability of such algorithms, and to set standards for compliance. Neurotechnology succeeded on two fronts: It passed the MINEX Baseline Compliance standard, and it showed an average False Rejection Rate (FRR) of 0.06 percent, just 0.01 percent behind the company in first place.
Having beaten the MINEX compliance threshold by 15 times, Neurotechnology’s system is clearly top-of-the-line in the industry. That system is currently available in three of the company’s current products: VeriFinger Extended SDK, MegaMatcher SDK, and MegaMatcher Accelerator. These products should now be highly marketable, given that fingerprint scanners are currently enjoying a boom in market growth, and top-of-the-line technology will likely be of interest in the field of law enforcement, where the appetite for such technology is growing.
