Neurotechnology’s iris recognition algorithm has attained the top spot in the “Rank1” category of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)’s IREX 10 evaluation program.
The Rank1 test evaluates the effectiveness of algorithms in identifying the correct individual from a list of the top-ranked biometric matches. Neurotechnology says its algorithm demonstrated a 99.14 percent accuracy rate for single-eye matching and an accuracy of 99.73 percent for two-eye assessments.
Neurotechnology provides algorithms and software development products for biometric fingerprint, face, iris, voice and palm print recognition, computer-based vision and object recognition to security companies, system integrators and hardware manufacturers. The company is focused on the development of neural networks for biometric identification and computer vision applications.
NIST, meanwhile, leads national and international consensus standards activities in biometrics. The organization responds to government and market requirements for biometric standards by collaborating with other federal agencies, law enforcement, industry and academic partners to support the timely development of scientifically valid, fit-for-purpose standards.
NIST’s biometric activities include research on various biometric modalities beyond iris recognition, including fingerprint, face, voice, DNA and multimodal approaches; standards development at the national and international level; and technology testing and evaluation which leads to innovation.
The news of Neurotechnology’s IREX success comes shortly after its launch of a new version of its Face Verification system, which can now detect whether a person enrolling their own face is wearing glasses or a hat, and can generate a warning if those accessories prevent alignment with a given application’s quality requirements. Version 13.1 also delivers an age estimation feature, and supports the use of GPU processing, which can significantly increase the number of concurrent requests that can be processed on a single server.
