NEC Europe CEO to Take Over NECAM
Chris Jackson has been named the President and CEO of NEC Corporation of America, effective April 1. Jackson will also remain in his current position as CEO of NEC Europe – a position he had held since April of 2020 – and will be appointed a Senior Vice President of the overarching NEC Corporation. At NECAM, Jackson will replace outgoing CEO Masahiro (Mark) Ikeno, who has been with NEC for over 35 years and served as the chief executive of its American arm since 2017. Commenting on his new role, Jackson noted that NEC has a number of global customers with operations in Europe and the U.S., adding that the new “alignment will enable us to better streamline across the regions”.
VSBLTY Names New Executive Chairman
VSBLTY has named Luiz Barros as its new Executive Chairman. With an executive track record spanning Rakuten Viber, Philip Morris, and Anheuser-Busch InBev, Barros was already serving as a VSBLTY board member prior to the appointment. While VSBLTY offers a business line focused on bringing its facial recognition and computer vision technology to security applications, Barros focused on the company’s smart marketing display efforts in commenting on his new role. “Leveraging data, analytics, audience targeting and measurement, in physical retail, is the holy grail for brands and no company is as ready as VSBLTY to deliver it,” he said.
Scottish Commissioner Recommends Biometrics Rules for Kids
The Scottish Biometrics Commissioner, Dr. Brian Plastow, has formally recommended the adoption of distinct policies for law enforcement’s collection of the biometric data of children. The recommendation is the result of a review of how Police Scotland interacts with children and vulnerable adults; overall, the review commended the police agency for safeguarding such subjects, but noted that a significant amount of biometric data had been collected and stored in police systems. Police Scotland is required to respond to the recommendation by June 30 of this year.
Co-operative Bank Embraces Onfido Onboarding
Onfido has deployed its identity verification technology with The Co-operative Bank, a prominent UK financial services firm. The bank had been searching for an enhanced onboarding process that would better serve new customers while fighting fraud and ensuring KYC compliance, and ultimately turned to Onfido. It now enables onboarding through its website, inviting customers to upload a selfie alongside a photo of their official ID. Aware Teams With SoftwareONE to Bring Solution to AWS Marketplace
Aware, Inc. is working with Switzerland-based multinational SoftwareONE to adapt AwareID, its multimodal identity solution, for deployment on the AWS Marketplace. First announced in October of last year, AwareID is a low-code, multimodal biometric platform aimed at enabling identity verification and authentication in the enterprise. SoftwareONE has accepted the solution into a development program in which AWS fund technology projects to bring them to its digital marketplace. In announcing the effort, Aware explained that enterprise decision-makers have been found to be more comfortable purchasing solutions through AWS Marketplace than through other sources.
Certa Teams With Irish Biometrics Startup
Certa, the provider of a third-party risk management platform, has established a partnership with ID-Pal. Based in Ireland, ID-Pal raised €7 million in Series A funding last year over excitement about its identity management solution, which uses facial recognition to match an end user’s selfie photo to an image of their physical ID. The startup’s solution will be integrated into Certa’s automated workflow pattern, with the goal of helping Certa customer to easily onboard third-party contacts in real time.
