NEC has renewed its partnership with the International Criminal Police Organization, signing a new agreement that will see the company provide assistance to INTERPOL in fighting digital crime.
The agreement will see NEC work with INTERPOL’s Singapore-based Cybercrime Programme in particular. In a statement announcing the new agreement, INTERPOL explained that its services for INTERPOL will include those that contribute to “the detection of cybercrime, the identification of criminals, detection of crime signs, and the provision of training (capacity building) for cybercrime investigators and forensic experts who belong to INTERPOL.”
On that note, the agreement appears to cover at least some of the same kinds of services that were entailed in a previous agreement INTERPOL established with NEC in 2014, which the new contract replaces. The ensuing years have already seen NEC provide cybercrime training to INTERPOL, and showcasing its biometric solutions at major INTERPOL events.
In any case, it seems likely that NEC’s expertise in the area of biometric identification will increasingly come to bear in its services for the international police organization. INTERPOL has repeatedly stressed the importance of sharing biometric data between its member organizations in the fight against criminals and terrorism, while NEC is renowned for its facial recognition technology and related security solutions.
“The combination of INTERPOL’s international network with NEC’s cutting-edge cyber security solutions will assist the investigation and analysis of complex and sophisticated cybercrime, and contribute to strengthening security at an international level,” NEC asserted in its announcement.
