Frost & Sullivan has presented NEC Corporation with its 2020 Global Biometrics in Security Market Growth Innovation & Leadership Excellence Frost Radar Award. The accolade recognizes NEC’s progress in the biometrics sphere, and for pioneering consumer-facing identity applications that go beyond traditional enterprise security.
In that regard, NEC noted that its biometric solutions can be modified to meet the needs of specific industries, which generates growth opportunities in sectors that were previously not considered to be significant biometric markets. For example, the company recently released a Front Desk Assistant that enables contactless (and automated) check-in procedures.
Frost & Sullivan’s Growth Innovation Leadership awards are intended to highlight innovative companies at the forefront of their respective industries, and are often handed to organizations that have reached new markets through the development of new products. The Frost Radar Award for Asia-Pacific Airport Automation was given to SITA back in December.
“NEC scored the highest in both the Growth and Innovation metrics within the Frost Radar due to its core focus on creating new customer use cases and enhancing their solutions,” said Frost & Sullivan Security Industry Analyst Danielle VanZandt. “NEC’s expertise in multiple biometrics modalities and continuous R&D to improve the accuracy of these solutions highlight the company’s commitment to innovation and blue ocean strategy in the biometric industry.”

NEC’s facial recognition algorithm was one of the top performers in the latest DHS Biometric Technology Rally, and was the most accurate solution when identifying masked faces. The company’s technology has also performed well in prior rounds of NIST testing.
