NEC Provides AFIS Tech for Kerala State Police in India

NEC Technologies India will be outfitting the Kerala State Police with a new automated fingerprint identification system (AFIS). The new tech is being rolled out through a partnership with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), and will be available to law enforcement officers at more than 600 venues across the state.   

C-DAC is the R&D branch of India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and helps other government organizations deploy new technology. To that end, the AFIS tech will speed up police investigations by matching fingerprints against an existing database of known individuals, and will also assist with the registration of new prints.

In the past few months, NEC has forged several partnerships with various government organizations in India. The arrangement with the Kerala State Police suggests that the company will continue to target the public sector. NEC recently teamed up with CSC e-Governance Services India to improve coverage in rural areas, and previously provided smart city surveillance tech for the Municipal Development Authority in Gurugram.
