The NEC Corporation is recapping some of its biggest 2020 accomplishments. In doing so, the company emphasized the impact of COVID-19 and the ways in which the pandemic has accelerated digital transformation in virtually every industry.
The demand was particularly high for contactless solutions that could reduce the risk of transmission, and for networking solutions that allowed companies to adapt to a remote work environment. NEC was able to deliver on both fronts. For example, the company’s I:Delight platform leverages biometric technology to enable touchless access control, while the new Network Connect solution automatically reroutes incoming calls to the most affordable carrier to reduce telecommunications costs.
NEC also made significant inroads in the aviation industry. In July, the company announced that it had signed a contract with the Hawaii Department of Transportation to provide facial recognition and temperature detection technology for all five airports in the state. It then teamed up with SITA to develop a contactless screening solution for the air travel industry at large. The Hawaii deployment involves NEC’s NeoFace Thermal Express solution, while the SITA collaboration will combine I:Delight with SITA’s Smart Path and Flex offerings. In doing so, the two companies are using mobile technology to streamline the passenger experience.
At the end of the year, NEC provided I:Delight facial recognition tech for the Star Alliance’s new passenger screening program, and took steps to improve the performance of its highly rated NeoFace algorithm for people who are wearing masks. On the remote work front, meanwhile, NEC joined forces with Intermedia to update its UNIVERGE BLUE cloud communications platform and provide businesses with scalable and user-friendly networking tech.
Finally, NEC celebrated the successful completion of its Visionary Week virtual event, which took place in December. Content from the event will be available on demand until January 30.
