NEC Forges New Partnership to Improve Digital Services in Rural India

NEC India has solidified and formalized its relationship with CSC e-Governance Services India (CSC SPV). The two companies have announced that they will be working together to bring more robust digital services to 900 million people living in remote parts of India, with NEC making an equity investment to become CSC’s third largest shareholder as part of the arrangement.

This is not the first time the two companies have worked together. NEC and CSC SPV previously collaborated with several Indian banks to provide better access to banking services in areas without a dedicated branch or an ATM.

“We are delighted to extend our involvement with CSC SPV to digitally empower residents in rural areas,” said NEC India Managing Director Takayuki Inaba.

For its part, CSC SPV will leverage NEC’s AI and data analytics expertise to deliver better services in an array of different industries.

“Education, financial inclusion and telemedicine are the areas where innovative technologies can be utilized to improve the quality of life for people living in rural India,” added CSC SPV CEO Dinesh Kumar Tyagi.

The news comes shortly after NEC India landed a CCTV surveillance contract with the city of Gurugram. It’s also one of serval initiatives designed to bring better connectivity to more remote parts of the country. In recent months, the Government of India has deployed biometric tech to implement programs that will provide payments and benefits to small farmers in rural areas.
