The JEN line of Shangri-La Hotels is teaming up with NEC Asia Pacific to update its check-in procedures at its JEN Singapore Orchardgateway and JEN Singapore Tanglin locations. To that end, the two hotels will be installing NEC’s contactless kiosks to enable a streamlined and fully self-service check-in process for interested guests.
The NEC kiosks come pre-loaded with NEC’s Bio-IDiom facial recognition technology, which runs on an algorithm that has consistently been one of the most accurate in NIST testing. When a guest approaches one of the kiosks, the E-Visitor Authentication (EVA) system will use facial recognition to verify that person’s identity, and confirm that they are booked to stay at the hotel before issuing a room key. The system can also cross-reference traveler information with the Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority.
The entire check-in process can be completed in a matter of minutes, and minimizes the need for contact between guests and hotel staff. JEN and NEC are hoping that it will support a better customer experience and help revitalize the hospitality industry in the wake of COVID-19.
“We wanted to increase our check-in capabilities and offer guests a ‘fast-lane’ option,” said JEN Singapore Orchardgateway GM Allen Khoo. “At the same time, it relieves the administrative workload, allowing us to focus on more meaningful interactions with our guests and providing them with memorable experiences during their stay.”
“Customer experience, particularly now that leisure travel is making a comeback, is of paramount importance,” added NEC APAC Digital Business VP Loke Siew Yeng. “By adopting an open and collaborative partnership with Hotel JEN, we were able to co-create a solution that addresses current needs and is also scalable to address future requirements that may come.”
NEC has previously argued that self-service kiosks should be a top priority for hospitality industry stakeholders as they move forward with their digital transformations. The company has already delivered similar technology for airports and front desk applications.
