National Bank of Canada has joined the Interac Verification Service, enabling the bank’s clients to confirm their identity online using existing banking credentials when accessing participating government and business services.
The Interac Verification Service allows users to authenticate through their financial institution’s login rather than creating separate credentials for each government or commercial platform, reducing friction and reliance on siloed systems. The service provides real-time identity confirmation using the verified relationship already established between a financial institution and its account holders, rather than acting as a simple login proxy.
National Bank of Canada is one of Canada’s six systemically important banks, with $606 billion in assets as of January 31, 2026, and more than 35,000 employees. Its addition extends the Interac Verification Service to another major Canadian retail bank, deepening the financial institution network that underpins Canada’s bank-backed digital identity approach.
“Helping Canadians interact online with confidence requires consistent, reliable ways to confirm identity,” said Fatema Pirone, Head of Interac Verified. Victor Glorion, Customer Domain Lead for Client Strategy and Experience at National Bank, said the collaboration with Interac “has been seamless and highly productive, reflecting a shared commitment to security in digital verification services.”
The National Bank addition follows the Interac Verified expansion to Kijiji announced just one week earlier, reflecting Interac’s accelerating effort to extend its bank-backed identity network across both institutional and consumer channels. Interac also launched Interac Verified for real estate transactions with FCT in May 2025, one of a series of sector-specific rollouts that the National Bank addition now deepens on the supply side.
Interac’s verification infrastructure traces to its 2021 decision to acquire SecureKey’s Canadian digital identity business, which provided the foundational technology for bank-backed identity services now used by National Bank. The National Bank addition comes as Canada’s national digital trust and identity standard was formalized in December 2025, providing a shared framework within which bank-backed verification services are expected to operate.
Interac connects nearly 300 financial institutions across Canada, and Canadians use Interac products more than 20 million times daily on average. The Interac Verified service is designed to support government services, financial services, healthcare access, and other regulated contexts requiring reliable identity confirmation.
