FCT Partners with Interac to Launch Digital ID System for Real Estate Deals

FCT, a Canadian provider of title insurance and real estate technology, has partnered with Interac Corp to integrate the Interac Verified digital identity credential service into its real estate technology ecosystem. The collaboration aims to establish a national standard for secure and streamlined digital real estate transactions in Canada.

Setting a New Standard for Identity Verification

Under the integration, Canadians will be able to use Interac Verified to create a secure, reusable digital identity. The credential can be generated through a combination of banking credentials, government-issued ID, and biometric photo verification. Once established, the credential can be shared safely and selectively during real estate transactions, eliminating the need for repeated document submissions and identity checks.

The new service is designed to help real estate professionals comply with FINTRAC requirements around know-your-customer (KYC) and anti-money laundering (AML) rules, while improving security and user experience for homebuyers and sellers. According to Interac, individuals retain control over their personal data, and only the necessary information is shared with transaction parties, reducing the risk of fraud and data overexposure.

FCT, a subsidiary of First American Financial Corporation, serves a wide range of clients across Canada, including real estate agents, lenders, lawyers, and mortgage brokers.

Deployment Timeline and Broader Applications

The Interac Verified credential service is expected to go live with FCT’s real estate solutions starting in July. This marks the first deployment of Interac Verified within the Canadian real estate sector, positioning FCT as a front-runner in digital identity adoption in property transactions. The service will be available through the Interac Verified app, with future plans to expand its availability through additional channels to meet evolving business needs.

Debbie Gamble, Chief Officer of Innovation Labs and New Ventures at Interac, noted the broader implications of the initiative: “By streamlining verification processes, we are not only enhancing security and user experience but also providing businesses with a valuable tool to improve efficiency and gain a competitive advantage in the digital marketplace.”

The Interac Verified system is designed to support multiple sectors beyond real estate, including banking, insurance, and e-commerce, where trusted digital identity verification is increasingly essential. Interac’s acquisition of SecureKey’s Canadian business in 2021, a move that significantly expanded its digital ID capabilities, laid the groundwork for the development and deployment of this credential platform.

As industry demand grows for FINTRAC-compliant digital verification tools, the FCT-Interac partnership signals a shift toward safer, faster, and more privacy-conscious real estate experiences in Canada.
