NADRA’s spokesperson confirmed that the Verisys system continues to provide identity verification services to financial institutions, addressing concerns about verification difficulties reported by banks and telecom operators.
The authority is working with the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to roll out a facial recognition system. This effort supports Pakistan’s expansion of biometric verification capabilities, which will include both facial recognition and iris scanning.
To address fingerprint verification challenges, NADRA now offers alternative verification methods through the Pak ID mobile app and in-person verification at NADRA centers. This solution is particularly important for elderly citizens, as NADRA prepares to introduce facial recognition for pension verification in 2025.
While NADRA provides the verification infrastructure, the SBP and PTA are responsible for implementing these systems in banking and telecommunications services. For SIM card services, PTA has created a verification process that connects cellular operators with NADRA’s systems at customer service centers and authorized franchises.
These initiatives advance Pakistan’s digital transformation strategy, supported by the recently enacted Digital Nation Act, which focuses on modernizing the country’s digital infrastructure and identity systems.
