The Myki password manager will now support face unlock on the Pixel 4. The newest version of the app integrates the Android 10 biometrics API, which in turn allows Pixel 4 owners to open the app with a facial recognition scan instead of a PIN.
To enable the feature, Myki users will first need to make their way to the Authentication Settings menu under their Profile, and activate Android 10 authentication. After that, they simply need to look at their phone to gain access to their password information. Myki only offered support for fingerprint biometrics prior to the update.
The news comes just over a month after Google updated its own platform to address a major security flaw with the Pixel 4’s facial recognition system. When it first debuted, the Pixel 4 would authenticate users even if their eyes were closed, and it still lacks many of the liveness detection features of a more robust system like Apple’s Face ID.
Myki is not the first password manager to take advantage of the Pixel 4’s facial recognition capabilities. LastPass and 1Password both announced that they would enable face unlock on the Pixel 4 back in 2019.
