Recently, MorphoTrust USA (Safran) was chosen by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to provide Central Authentication Technology (E-CAT) to all airports across the United States of America. The contract will last seven years and has a ceiling of $85 million.
MorphoTrust, a long time collaborator with the TSA, will be providing airports with the capability to automate passenger credential checks. Instead of the current time-consuming process of human visual inspection of the document, passengers will be able to have their credentials scanned by the TSA document checker.
The company’s E-CAT, once connected to the TSA’s network, will allow for the automatic checking of a passenger ID. In addition to inspecting for signs of fraud or counterfeiting, the E-CAT will also allow for document cross-referencing against passenger boarding information and current watch lists.
Though the E-CAT stands to greatly improve the speed and assurance of US airport security document checks, and therefore expedite the laborious experience of flight, the company has a luxurious vision of the future.
According to MorphoTrust CEO Bob Eckel, “MorphoTrust E-CAT is the culmination of many years of work to address airport security requirements following the 9/11 tragedy, while simplifying travel for American citizens. It is also just the beginning of our vision for what’s possible in air travel, creating a future in which passengers can move easily and securely from the curb to the gate without boarding passes or security lines.”
MorphoTrust’s collaboration with the TSA extends beyond passenger security expedition. In July, the company’s aggressive support of the TSA’s Universal Enrollment Services (UES) was the focus of the news. MorphoTrust completed the transfer of the TSA’s Hazardous Materials Endorsement Threat Assessment Program (HTAP) over to UES, making enrollment in the standard more accessible and efficient.
