Morpho to Provide Tech for Singapore Airport’s FAST Project

Singapore’s Changi airport has chosen Morpho (Safran) to provide the technology for its Fast and Seamless Travel (FAST) project at the forthcoming Terminal 4.

Airport authorities first announced their intention to use biometric identification in the new airport terminal last summer, intending it as a means of fast-tracking passenger processing. Now, they have agreed on a plan with Morpho to integrate its MorphoWay automated gates and MorphoPass Biometric Applicant Management System for this purpose.

The aim is to automate the passenger processing experience, using facial recognition technology to make baggage deposit, security screening, and boarding into self-service procedures. Commenting on the project in a press release, Morpho CEO Anne Bouverot asserted that together with the airport authorities, her company is “building the checkpoint of the future, combining the best in biometric accuracy, design efficiency and program execution.”

Further pushing the country toward a future of biometric borders, toward the end of January, the Singapore government also mandated fingerprint scanning at all points of entry. It isn’t yet clear if this will dovetail into Morpho’s Changi project, but given that Terminal 4 is slated to open in 2017, there is still time for such a development.
