Today it was announced that Morpho (Safran) has been selected to continue providing identity document management services to Albania, after successful collaboration with the republic’s government for five years. The e-document solutions provider signed an agreement with Albania’s Ministry of Interior, extending the production and distribution of ID documents for an additional ten years. In addition to the continual identification document services offered by the concession started in 2008, Morpho will be providing a platform that gives access to e-Services in accordance with the Digital Albania initiative.
The new platform used to achieve the additional provisions required by the agreement, called Morpho eTusted Identity Services, will provide Albanian citizens the ability to carry out public and private transactions online via computers, tablets and smartphones. Morpho’s new solution will improve the delivery of a wide range of services, from tax declarations and birth certificate applications to personal banking and legal transactions.
On the subject of Morpho eTrusted Identity Services, Ferdinand Poni, Albania’s deputy minister of interior had this to say: “Our Digital Albania initiative seeks to revolutionize access to public and private services for all citizens, and we are confident that this new e-ID platform will help us to achieve this ambitious goal.”
The company will also continue to produce identity documents, integrating additional enhanced security features. Morpho has been managing the production process of high-security biometric identity cards and passports, enrolling, personalizing, issuing and distributing over 2.6 million e-Passports and 3.2 million e-ID cards since the orriginal concession was made. The biometric documents open new possibilities for Albanian citizens, allowing them to travel in the Schengen Area sans the previously required visa.
Martin Mata, co-director of the American-Albanian Enterprise Fund (AAEF) said, “The AAEF is proud and happy to be a partner with Morpho in this project and to be able to continue to assist the Albanian people with state-of-the-art identity documents and new services related to the eTrusted ID services platform.”
Chairman and CEO of Morpho, Philippe Petitcolin, after speaking to the so far successful partnership with the Albanian Government concludes, “We are committed to continue delivering world-class technology for the benefit of Albanian citizens over the next decade.”
