2019 is about to come to a close, yet big news in the biometrics industry has continued right up to the end, as this week’s roundup of FindBiometrics’ top stories illustrates.
That having been said, it is a somewhat unusual one for its inclusion of two articles from the world of mobile biometrics, first reported on our sister site, Mobile ID World. This is, of course, a major segment of the overall biometrics market, and it’s rapid evolution continues, with readers proving interested in the news that Samsung’s iris-scanning Galaxy S9 and Note9 smartphones now support the Google Biometric API:

… as well as Apple patent news providing the latest indication that the company may be planning to bring its fingerprint-scanning Touch ID system back to a future iPhone, in an in-display form:
New Apple Patent Describes In-Display Touch ID
Zooming out to the broader biometrics industry, this week brought the news that Frost & Sullivan has named IDEMIA the Global Biometrics Company of the Year for 2019. This is a significant accolade for the company, if not a surprisingly one, given that IDEMIA is one of the biggest biometrics companies in the world:

Meanwhile, in the world of Know Your Customer solutions – and specifically ‘Know Your Corporate Customer’ – Onfido announced this week that it was partnering with Estonian KYCC specialist Entify:
Onfido Forms Strategic Partnership with Entify
And finally, the ongoing ascent of airport biometrics was reflected this week in a popular article about NEC’s Indian subsidiary winning a contract to provide biometric passenger screening technology at four of the country’s airports:
