Mitek is looking to make customer onboarding as safe and secure as possible with its newly announced Mitek Verified Identity Platform, or MiVIP.
The solution is designed to get an onboarding system operational without the need for specialized coding. On the back end, a desktop interface allows administrators to configure exactly which identity details they need to collect from a given customer.
For the customer, meanwhile, a simple user interface ensures that they are effortlessly guided through every step of the registration process. They’re prompted to add in biographical information, then to take a selfie photo that is scanned using facial recognition backed up by liveness detection technology that ensures the customer really is present on their device.
Next, the customer is prompted to add a driver’s license, and then a photo of proof of address. That’s the entire process, and it can be down easily on a smartphone or another device of the customer’s choosing.
In announcing the solution, Mitek emphasized the need to guard against the increasing threat of online fraud. Citing the National Council on Identity Theft Protection and Finanso, respectively, the company noted that almost half of US citizens were identity theft victims between 2020 and 2022, and that 56 percent of Europeans have experienced fraud in the past two years, with a third of those having encountered identity theft.
The announcement comes after Mitek’s appointment in May of a new Head of Product, Chris Briggs, who would be mandated with overseeing the integrations of technologies from ID R&D, which Mitek acquired last year, and HooYu, which was acquired by the company in March.
Commenting on the MiVIP, Mitek CEO Max Carnecchia suggested that Briggs’ work was a major driver of its development. “Mitek’s new platform, MiVIP, is a culmination of our best technologies, our most recent acquisition and our ongoing commitment to putting Mitek’s customers in control of their consumer experiences,” he said.
For his part, Briggs called MiVIP “an easy-to-deploy, highly adaptable and robust identity verification platform that can integrate with a company’s fraud and risk workflows in hours,” adding that it can be customized to suit various organizations’ needs.
