Having acquired two complementary tech companies over the past year, Mitek has now brought in a Head of Product to oversee the integration of their technologies.
Chris Briggs comes to the company from a previous position with Airside, a digital identity firm based in Washington, DC, where he served as Chief Product Officer from April of 2021 to April of this year. Before that, Briggs spent five-and-a-half years with Equifax, serving in senior-level product management, marketing, and strategy roles from 2015 to 2020.
Briggs also spent eight-and-a-half years with Experian, rising from a product management and marketing position to become a product management VP; and he has held high-level operations, product management, and marketing roles with Howard Systems International, e2i, and BSG, among other roles.
In a statement announcing his new position with Mitek, the company explained that he will help “to expand and advance the company’s biometric and fraud detection capabilities.” More specifically, the company explained that Briggs “will steer Mitek’s product strategy including integrations stemming from recent and future acquisitions.”
In March, Mitek announced its acquisition of HooYu, a specialist in selfie-based biometric onboarding technology, in a deal valued at GBP 98 million. And last year, the company acquired ID R&D, a specialist in face and voice biometrics that had also begun to explore behavioral biometrics technology. Mitek’s aim is to combine these firms’ technologies with its own so as to offer solutions across the identity lifecycle, from onboard to ongoing authentication, an effort that Briggs will now lead.
“Bringing in a seasoned veteran to lead the integrations of these investments is a natural next step for Mitek as the company innovates to help organizations onboard more consumers, faster, and streamline the digital experience for both businesses and consumers,” explained Mitek CEO Max Carnecchia.
For his part, Briggs expressed enthusiasm about joining the Mitek mission. “There are other players working to make a name for themselves in the identity space; however, Mitek’s demonstrated success in executing its development plans was a primary driver in my decision to join the team,” he said.
The announcement of Briggs’ appointment comes after Mitek posted strong gains in revenues and net income in its update for the first quarter of 2022.
