In the wake of its acquisition of ID R&D, Mitek has now announced two important new executive appointments.
Frank Teruel, an experienced cybersecurity executive and academic, has been named the company’s new Chief Financial Officer. Currently an Adjunct Professor at Santa Clara University’s Leavey School of Business, Tereul was previously COO of ADARA, a predictive consumer intelligence and identity verification specialist. Notably, he also served as the general manager and CFO of ThreatMetrix through its sale to RELX/LexisNexis.
Mitek has also appointed a new board member: Susan Repo, who is currently the Chief Financial Officer at ICEYE, a company specializing in satellite imagery of Earth. Report has previously served in financial and operational roles with Agilent Technologies, Juniper Networks, MariaDB, and Tesla. In a statement announcing the appointments, Mitek noted that Repo’s “experience in driving strategic and transformative results includes leading Tesla’s capital raises to accelerate growth, expansion into alternative energy and its acquisition of SolarCity.”
The announcement of these appointments comes a little more than a week after the news that Mitek had acquired ID R&D, a specialist in face and voice recognition, with additional expertise in behavioral biometrics. In buying ID R&D, Mitek appears to have been primarily interested in its liveness detection technology, seeing it as a complement to its own biometric authentication tech.
Commenting on these new appointments, Mitek CEO Max Carnecchia framed them as important maneuvers to help facilitate the company’s continuing growth. In its year-end fiscal update for 2020, the company reported a 20 percent year-over-year increase in revenues, with Q4 revenues rising by 22 percent over the corresponding quarter in 2019.
“Susan’s global experience in the high-technology and financial services sectors, along with her deep background in leading financial operations in both public and private companies, will be invaluable to the Mitek Board of Directors as we continue to grow and scale our business,” he explained; while “Frank’s decades of executive leadership and domain expertise within the identity space will provide valuable experience and insights during this exciting phase of Mitek’s growth.”
