Mitek Systems, Inc., has announced the appointment of Edward H. West as its new Chief Executive Officer and member of its Board of Directors, effective immediately. Scott Carter, who has been serving as Interim CEO since June of this year, will transition to the role of non-executive Chairman of the Board.
Edward West brings a wealth of experience from leadership roles in both public and private companies, ranging from startups to Fortune 100 firms. Prior to joining Mitek, he served as CEO of Cardtronics plc, where he guided the company’s evolution from a hardware-centric business to a broader financial services solutions provider. During his tenure, Cardtronics achieved significant organic growth and enhanced profitability, leading up to its acquisition by NCR in 2021.
“I am honored to join Mitek as CEO at such a pivotal time for both the company and the industry,” said West. “With its strong foundation as a software provider to thousands of financial institutions and the growing global reliance on identity security, Mitek has an exciting opportunity to continue reshaping the future of identity and fraud management.”
At Mitek, West is expected to leverage his expertise in fintech partnerships, digital solution integration, and data analytics to drive innovation and expand the company’s reach into new markets.
“We are thrilled to welcome Ed to Mitek Systems,” said Carter. “Ed’s expertise in driving top-line growth through innovative product development and business model transformation will be invaluable as Mitek enters its next chapter. He brings a proven track record of building fintech partnerships, integrating digital solutions, and leveraging data and analytics to optimize efficiency.”
Mitek’s board first announced plans to name a new CEO in May. Having burnished its standing in the identity technology industry through its acquisitions of biometric identity specialists like ID R&D in 2021 and HooYu in 2022, and through its launch of products like Check Fraud Defender, MiVIP, and MiPass, Nominating and Governance Committee Chairperson Donna Wells said the company was now ready for a new leader to usher the company into “its next phase of growth.”
Digital and mobile ID may play an important role in that phase. At a recent California DMV Hackathon, Mitek along with Trinsic demonstrated the potential of mobile driver’s licenses (mDLs) for real-world applications, such as renting and test-driving cars, showcasing how digital identity verification can be streamlined. The event drew interest from financial institutions like US Bank and VISA, highlighting the potential for mDL integration in financial services.
