Microsoft has fixed a problem affecting the “Require Biometrics” setting in Edge for Android, according to the browser’s latest beta release notes. The change appears in Edge Beta version 136.0.3240.8, where Microsoft says the update “corrected the inability to turn off Require Biometrics via device authentication.”
The setting allows users to require biometric authentication, such as fingerprint or facial recognition through Android’s device authentication system, before accessing stored browser data or autofill credentials. The bug prevented some users from disabling the feature through normal device authentication controls.
The correction has been introduced in the Edge Beta channel for Android and is expected to reach the stable version of the browser in a future update as the build moves through Microsoft’s release cycle.
Biometric authentication has become a standard security control in mobile software, particularly for protecting access to stored credentials and autofill data. Recent industry developments have included device-level intelligence being added to authentication systems and biometric verification features expanding across enterprise identity platforms, reflecting a broader trend toward stronger user authentication across both consumer and enterprise applications.
