Norway’s Next Biometrics has just become the third worldwide provider of fingerprint-scanning devices to be certified by Microsoft, according to Rasmus Falck in an article for Norwegian Immigrant Weekly. The certification paves the way for integration of Next Biometrics technology into Microsoft PCs and tablets, and the large American company has already announced plans to include Next Biometrics drives in its Windows 8.1 and 7 products.
Next Biometrics is an interesting company. It was founded in Norway by a refugee from Vietnam in the 1970s and has since grown into a multimillion dollar company with satellite offices in Shanghai, Tapei, and Seattle, where five of its eleven engineers speak Mandarin. The company is now in a rather advantageous position, having both teamed up with Texas-based Fulcrum Biometrics and introduced its IPO in June of this year, and now having sealed this deal with Microsoft. Moreover, Next has been developing client relationships in America, Japan, and most recently Brazil – all areas highlighted for growth by Research and Markets’ recent projection for the security scanning field.
