Fingerprint Cards (FPC) has announced that it will once again be providing fingerprint sensors for MeReal’s next shipment of biometric cards. The new cards are expected to hit the market in 2020, and will feature an FPC1300 sensor.
MeReal recently unveiled a new biometric smart card called the Keyper, although it’s unclear if the Keyper is the card being referred to in FPC’s two-line press release. However, FPC has supplied the fingerprint sensors for previous MeReal cards, and this latest integration indicates that both companies are eager to continue the partnership. With that in mind, there’s a good chance that FPC will be providing biometric sensors for the Keyper, even if that particular card is not the subject of FPC’s announcement.
The FPC1300 series was first launched in 2016, and was designed specifically for the burgeoning smart card market. The sensors have since been featured in biometric payment card trials in Italy, Japan, and the Middle East. Some of FPC’s other offerings have been featured in more smartphone integrations in the past few months, but the MeReal news demonstrates that the FPC1300 line is indeed still popular with smart card manufacturers.
