Today, Lumidigm announced that it’s multispectral biometric fingerprint technology will be showcased by Third Millennium, a UK manufacturer of RFID and biometrics solutions, at the upcoming IFSEC International Exposition. The event runs June 17 through 19 and will see Third Millennium featuring Lumidigm’s sensors on the RX6 biometric reader at booth C1810.
Part of the ELITE series of biometric readers, the RX6 combines the benefits of multispectral imaging technology with aesthetics in what a recent press release describes as uncompromisingly stylish. It features an RGB LED that can be used practically, in the case of denoting various levels of clearance, or solely to look cool with mood lighting settings. It appears to float on the wall, an effect produced by the reader’s shallow backplate.
Notably, the solution eliminates the need for a biometric database, allowing for two templates to be stored on user held smartcards. It supports DESFire EV1 or Legic Advant cards for this purpose.
Of course, with the feature of Lumidigm sensors come the advantages of multispectral imaging. Bill Spence, Lumidigm vice president, North America, Europe and Australia explains the technology, saying:
“Multispectral imaging is a sophisticated technology specifically developed by Lumidigm to overcome the fingerprint capture problems found with conventional imaging systems. This more-effective technology is based on the use of multiple spectrums of light and advanced optical techniques to extract unique fingerprint characteristics from both the surface and subsurface of the skin. That subsurface capability is important because the fingerprint ridges seen on the surface of the finger have their foundation beneath the surface of the skin, in the capillary beds and other sub-dermal structures.”
As a sensor manufacturer, Lumidigm has found its technology serving a many different types of deployment. Thanks to the nature of multispectral imaging, the company’s fingerprint sensors are versatile in application, able to operate unhindered in nonideal conditions. Banking, patient tracking and access control are all areas in which Lumidigm technology can be found.
Recently Lumidigm named MTRIX as an official European dealer. This expands its reach even further after having already been acquired by HID Global in early spring. Immediately after that big news, findBIOMETRICS president Peter O’Neill interviewed Lumidigm’s executive director Bob Harbour about how things are changing for the multispectral company.
