Authentication solution provider Lumidigm announced today that upon arrival to the Republic of Korea’s airports and seaports, foreign visitors will go through an immigration clearance process involving SMARTCORE multi-biometrics acquisition stations (MBAS) that leverage Lumidigm multispectral imaging sensors.
Upon arrival, visitors will hand over their passport to an immigration officer and then simultaneously scan both of their index fingers for verification by placing them on separate Lumidigm fingerprint sensors while MBAS photographs their face. The entire processes can be watched here.
The MBAS was manufactured by South Korea’s SMARTCORE for the purpose of the ergonomic and fast enrollment of high quality biometric data using multispectral imaging technology, thanks to which the unit is able to read fingerprint data on a first attempt. Lumidigm’s multispectral imaging scans and captures both the surface and the subsurface of a submitted fingerprint allowing for accurate, first try readings regardless of the finger’s condition, be it wet, dirty or slightly rotated.
“The MBAS is a well-designed device that delivers the security the government requires with multi-factor authentication while ensuring as much convenience as possible for visitors to South Korea. We are proud to be part of this project,” says Lumidigm’s senior vice president of sales Phil Scarfo, further attributing the multispectral imaging offered by the MBAS to making the processing of weary travelers quick, easy, accurate and convenient. “SMARTCORE understands assured authentication.”
Adding further endorsement to the Lumidigm powered South Korean Immigration Project solution, SMARTCORE president Bong Kyu Choi remarks: “We looked to Lumidigm because of the extremely low failure-to-enroll rates of their core technology. We were also able to leverage the superior performance of multispectral imaging to meet the liveness detection standards demanded by the Korean Immigration Service.”
