Login.gov has built an option that would let people verify their identity with an existing CLEAR account, according to code published in the service’s public GitHub repository. A change merged on October 9 adds a “Verify with CLEAR” button to Login.gov’s identity verification pages, and Login.gov’s release notes list it in a production release deployed on October 13. The settings that control the option are switched off by default.
In the proof of concept, Login.gov sends the user to CLEAR, retrieves the verification result and uses the returned identity details, including Social Security number and ID document information, to create a verified Login.gov profile. Work on the integration began in July, before GSA posted a request for information on inherited credentials.
Separate changes prepare Login.gov to share identity document photos and selfies with agencies on an allow-list, after users consent.
