Swiss identity technology company Procivis has won a public procurement contract to provide Lithuania’s national sandbox for the European Digital Identity Wallet.
The 12-month project, awarded in partnership with Lithuania’s State Digital Solutions Agency, will use Procivis One technology as the foundation for testing and validating digital wallet use cases ahead of the EU-wide eIDAS 2.0 deadline requiring all member states to provide a national digital wallet by end of 2026.
Lithuania’s sandbox follows Germany’s EUDI Wallet sandbox, which launched in January to test wallet functions ahead of the 2026 deadline. The contract reflects EU member states’ urgent EUDI Wallet development programs as the end-2026 deadline approaches.
The sandbox will enable testing of seamless digital identity verification for national and cross-border use cases including accessing public services, travel, and car rental. Procivis was selected through public procurement based on the maturity of their technology and team expertise.
The contract positions Lithuania to validate EUDI Wallet readiness while building knowledge infrastructure for future full-scale implementation. The testing environment will allow government agencies, service providers, and technical teams to identify integration challenges and refine implementation approaches before national rollout.
While Italy’s early EUDI Wallet launch positioned it as first to market, Lithuania’s sandbox approach focuses on validating technical readiness before committing to full deployment.
EU member states face growing pressure to deliver functional EUDI Wallets as the regulatory deadline approaches. The eIDAS 2.0 regulation requires member states to provide citizens with digital identity wallets that work across borders for accessing public and private services throughout the European Union.
The Procivis One platform will provide the core wallet infrastructure and technical components for Lithuania’s testing program.
