LexisNexis Risk Solutions has added Behavioral Biometrics to its ThreatMetrix identity verification platform. The update will give organizations a better chance to spot and prevent fraudulent activities in real time.
ThreatMetrix is an enterprise-level security solution that lets organizations verify and authenticate customers and employees. The new Behavioral Biometrics feature will create a unique profile for each user based on the way they engage with the device, taking into consideration factors like mouse movement, phone tilt, and typing speed. After that, the platform will use that profile as a template to generate a risk score for future interactions.
Doing so will add an extra layer of security during high-risk events like account opening, logins, payments, and password resets. LexisNexis Behavioral Biometrics will profile both legitimate activity and fraudulent activity, which will allow organizations to recognize fraudulent patterns and sort genuine users from bots and cybercriminals.
“Gathering device interaction data across multiple touchpoints in the online journey helps build richer digital profiles,” said LexisNexis Risk Solutions Fraud and Identity Strategy VP Kimberly Sutherland. “As fraudsters adapt their strategies to bypass controls, security solutions must be able to distinguish between trustworthy and malicious users in real time, without adding unnecessary friction for good customers.
LexisNexis Risk Solutions’ latest Cybercrime Report found that cybercriminals are increasingly targeting mobile channels, while a separate report found that retail fraud has tripled in the past three years. The company has repeatedly pushed behavioral biometrics as one of the more effective ways to combat the problem, most notably when it integrated BioCatch technology into its LexisNexis Risk Defense Platform in 2017.
LexisNexis Behavioral Biometrics gives the company its own behavioral biometrics capabilities, and the solution has already been fully integrated into ThreatMetrix. The company itself is part of the RELX Group, which acquired ThreatMetrix and its Digital Identity Network back in 2018.
