LexisNexis Risk Solutions has acquired BehavioSec in an effort to bolster its identity verification and fraud prevention portfolio. BehavioSec is best known for its behavioral biometrics technology, and LexisNexis Risk Solutions is planning to integrate that into its existing ThreatMetrix solution to provide clients with a higher level of passive security.
On that front, LexisNexis Risk Solutions indicated that BehavioSec’s portfolio will be particularly useful for securing mobile devices. The company added behavioral biometrics to ThreatMetrix all the way back in 2020, though it suggested that its current offering is less robust than the BehavioSec one it is acquiring. In that regard, the current version of ThreatMetrix only offers limited insight into user activity in web browsers, whereas the BehavioSec system can provide more comprehensive insights into mobile devices with touchscreens and other kinds of sensors.
Both systems nevertheless serve a similar purpose as it relates to actual deployment. Behavioral biometrics analyzes people’s digital habits to create a unique profile for each user, and then looks at future activity to make sure it fits the expected pattern. Such solutions can operate in the background to provide ongoing authentication within a session, and can alert administrators to the presence of any bots or cybercriminals. The technology is designed to help prevent fraud, and has become popular in sectors ranging from finance to healthcare.
LexisNexis Risk Solutions will offer BehavioSec’s tech to clients as part of its Business Services division. BehavioSec itself was founded in 2008.
“BehavioSec is a forerunner in the behavioral biometrics segment and continues to evolve and innovate ahead of any other behavioral biometric solution available today,” said Business Services CEO Rick Trainor. “Our combined customer base will benefit significantly from a blended behavioral biometrics solution within ThreatMetrix that offers more defense for customers without adding friction across the consumer journey.”
The two companies did not discuss the terms of the acquisition. BehavioSec, meanwhile, held two dozen patents for its behavioral biometrics technology as of June of 2021.
