LexisNexis Risk Solutions has completed its Epic integration and made Identity Proofing for MyChart available through the Epic Toolbox Program. U.S. hospitals and health systems can use the integration to add identity verification and risk decisioning to patient portal workflows without building a custom connection.

Epic has placed the product in its Identity Verification for MyChart category. A Toolbox designation means the integration follows Epic’s technical blueprints and functionality practices, giving healthcare IT teams a standardized deployment path through the Epic Connection Hub.

The LexisNexis offering is modular, allowing a health system to combine digital identity checks with email and phone association data, biometrics intelligence and other risk signals. The organization can vary the level of verification according to the interaction, applying more controls to higher-risk account activity while keeping routine access simpler.

LexisNexis says the suite can support NIST Identity Assurance Level 2, a federal standard requiring stronger evidence that an online applicant is connected to a real-world identity. The tools use artificial intelligence and machine learning to examine patterns across identity events and support decisions during account creation, login and recovery.

MyChart portals also handle access to medical records, patient messaging, appointment scheduling and payments. Those functions make a compromised account useful for both data theft and fraud, particularly when an attacker can exploit a weak recovery process or a forged identity document.

LexisNexis announced plans to expand its Epic identity verification suite in March. The Toolbox availability marks the completed integration for MyChart customers rather than another planned addition to the Connection Hub.

Healthcare providers have been adding stronger identity controls at several points in the patient journey. Mount Sinai, for example, deployed biometric patient identity checks across ambulatory practices and urgent-care locations to reduce duplicate records and registration errors.

Brad Bauer, senior vice president and general manager for healthcare at LexisNexis Risk Solutions, said the standardized integration is intended to reduce implementation complexity for health systems. Epic customers can select the combination of checks that fits their patient experience, operational priorities and risk tolerance while keeping the controls inside existing MyChart workflows in clinical settings.
