Lenovo Health has teamed up with LifeMed Inc. to offer a patient ID solution for the healthcare market.
They’re calling it the Authoritative Identity Management Exchange, or AIMe, and it’s meant to address the issues of record duplication, identity theft, and fraud. Essentially, the system is designed to establish a definitive link between a patient and her medical records using a unique ID token. It’s based on the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) Assurance Level 3 standard, ensuring that it offers reliable authentication.
In a statement announcing the system, Lenovo Health Director of Global Health Solution Strategy Tom Foley explained that it facilitates “improved interoperability and data protection, which leads to greater quality of care.”
Indeed, it’s a need that is proving increasingly important as healthcare systems embrace digital records-keeping systems. Other companies such as Imprivata have also sought to offer reliable links between patients and their records via sophisticated technologies such as biometric authentication—something Lenovo Health and LifeMed could embrace as they seek to refine their offering in the future.
