Leidos to Provide Traveler Processing Equipment for US Customs Agency

Leidos has signed a lucrative new contract with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) is worth an estimated $960 million, and primarily concerns the provision of software development services, as well as the delivery and maintenance of specialized traveler processing equipment. The technology lineup includes everything from workstations and document readers to kiosks and biometric capture devices.

“Leidos has a rich history with CBP, helping safeguard ports and borders, and facilitating commerce and travel,” said Leidos Intelligence Group President Vicki Schmanske. “This BPA extends this work and draws upon Leidos’ deep capabilities in both agile software development and SecDevOps, to support CBP’s essential national security mission.”

The contract is structured as a one-year base period with four subsequent one-year options. According to Leidos, most of the work will be carried out in the area around the nation’s capital in Washington, D.C.

The contract should help offset the $1 billion that Leidos spent to acquire L3Harris Technologies’ Security Detection and Automation business back in May. L3Harris focuses primarily on screening solutions that are geared towards airport security.

Leidos UK is currently working to update the biometric capabilities of that country’s Home Office. The two parties inked a new ten-year contract in October.
