SAFR from RealNetworks has launched the latest iteration of its flagship facial recognition solution. SAFR version 3.8 focuses primarily on backend utility, introducing a slew of updates that will make it easier for organizations to unlock the full capabilities of the platform.
In that regard, SAFR 3.8 comes with an improved Operator Console that will help administrators navigate the SAFR dashboard more quickly. The Console will now allow users to jump straight to a live video feed through the alerts panel when they receive a notification from that camera, and the Console comes with anti-cluttering and color-coding features to minimize the amount of visual busyness that users need to sift through when using the system.
Users also have the option of concealing certain kinds of metadata (such as age and gender) on live video feeds to limit the display of personal information. However, that metadata is still being captured, and can be used to search for specific events during a forensic investigation.
To make the platform more appealing to enterprise clients, SAFR 3.8 will allow customers to control the entire system from a single centralized server. Administrators can activate or deactivate the feature, or set custom permissions to determine what can and cannot be managed in such a fashion. The tool can be used to manage all of a network’s video feeds, and gauge the status of each processor. Individuals can access that information from virtually any device, and manage functions like archives, data retention, and email and SMS notifications.
Finally, SAFR 3.8 introduces self-signed SSL CERTs for enhanced security. The CERTs are generated on a per-deployment basis, and negate the need to register an SSL CERT and a domain when establishing a secure connection.
“Our latest release further enhances UI usability while supporting a wider array of deployment applications,” said SAFR Engineering Solutions Senior Director Steven McMillen. “SAFR’s code is lightweight, allowing it to take advantage of advances in GPU technology to give users more parallel processing power.”
SAFR introduced SMS Watchlist alerts and strengthened its liveness detection capabilities with the release of SAFR 3.4 last April. The company also added better mask recognition with SAFR 3.0 in October of 2020. The facial recognition platform has since made inroads in the Japanese market, after SAFR entered into a reseller arrangement with NTT Docomo.
