The Public Authority for Civil Information (PACI) in Kuwait has implemented three distinct levels of verification within the “MY KUWAIT ID” mobile application. The introduction of these verification levels comes amid rumors regarding changes to Kuwaiti citizenship procedures, which have been officially denied by the Ministry of Interior.
The verification levels have been meticulously designed to uphold the highest security standards and are categorized into three tiers: Medium, High, and Verified. This approach is reminiscent of global efforts to enhance identity verification, such as the expansion of NFC capabilities by Apple, which aims to provide more secure and efficient transactions.
The Medium level involves manual entry of data during registration. It offers features such as card verification and access to a portfolio of government documents. This level provides a basic yet secure method for users to authenticate their identities. This method is similar to other identity verification processes globally, where manual data entry remains a foundational step in ensuring user authenticity.
The High level uses NFC technology to scan the civil ID card for registration. This method enhances security by leveraging technology that ensures a more secure and efficient verification process. The primary feature available at this level is the civil ID. NFC technology has been increasingly adopted worldwide, as seen in ARIADNEXT’s mobile SDK, which enhances document reading capabilities through NFC support.
The Verified level requires the use of self-service devices for registration. Is has more stringent security measures, making it the most secure option among the three.
PACI has emphasized that these verification levels are aligned with the highest security standards, ensuring comprehensive protection of user data throughout the registration and verification processes. Each level is crafted to provide a robust mechanism for authenticating user identities and preventing unauthorized access to sensitive information.
This development aligns with global trends in enhancing digital identity security, as seen in initiatives like the Qatar Digital Identity app, which has also focused on improving security and user experience.
PACI officials have underscored that these verification levels are part of their continuous efforts to maintain the highest security standards within the “MY KUWAIT ID” app. By offering multiple verification options, users can select the level of security that best aligns with their needs, thereby improving overall app security and fostering user trust. This strategy reflects a broader industry trend towards customizable security solutions, allowing users to balance convenience and security according to their preferences.
