“This certification allows FacePhi to be recognized as a certified company both in Korea and abroad, and is a clear example of the company adhering to strict international ISO standards.” – Dongpyo Hong, CEO, FacePhi APAC
FacePhi has received an important new certification in its efforts to expand its global reach: the biometrics specialist has earned K-NBTC certification from the Korean Internet Security Agency.
The certification is issued by KISA’s National Biometric Testing Center, and is based on the evaluation of FacePhi’s facial recognition technology. That evaluation was, in turn, based on methodology from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), as well as ISO standards.
In announcing the certification, FacePhi explained in a statement that its facial recognition algorithm was “tested for changes in lighting conditions of different scenarios, changes in facial expression, pose and the use of accessories.”
The Spain-based company first announced its South Korean subsidiary, dubbed “FacePhi APAC”, in May of 2019. Headed by former CrucialTec USA President Dongpyo Hong, the outfit has since gained some traction, with deployments including a patient identification system at Kangbuk Samsung Hospital in Seoul and a selfie-based onboarding system for Hanwha Investment & Securities Co.
Now, the K-NBTC certification is poised to help FacePhi further accelerate its efforts in the region.
“This certification allows FacePhi to be recognized as a certified company both in Korea and abroad, and is a clear example of the company adhering to strict international ISO standards,” explained Dongpyo Hong. “For FacePhi APAC, 2022 will be a year of expansion in the financial sector and of continuous offers of our solutions to clients in new industries.”
Meanwhile, FacePhi continues to enjoy success at home, having announced partnerships with Spain’s SoYou financial services startup and the Valencia CF soccer club this month. The latter could also help FacePhi to extend its global reach, with the European football club having agreed to act as “a global ambassador” for FacePhi that will help to promote its biometric technology at major soccer events including the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
