Acuity Market Intelligence has recognized Keyless as a Luminary in its Biometric Digital Identity Privacy & Compliance Prism Report 2025, ranking the company as the top vendor in the Passwordless Authentication category. The report highlights Keyless for what Acuity calls “Privacy and Compliance Leadership,” placing emphasis on how technical approaches align with regional data-protection regimes across markets.
The Prism survey maps frameworks from established rules such as the EU’s GDPR to emerging regulations like Chile’s LPPD, and profiles threat environments in sectors including healthcare and travel. One customer case study features Relai, the Swiss Bitcoin wallet, which adopted Keyless for multi-factor authentication that avoids sharing personally identifiable information. Relai had reportedly considered device-native face unlock and SMS one-time passcodes, but selected Keyless to minimize privacy exposure and reduce attack vectors.
Keyless Co-Founder and COO Fabian Eberle described the Luminary recognition as validation of the company’s focus on privacy-driven biometric security. He said that with regulations tightening worldwide, organizations need authentication methods that safeguard user data while still meeting enterprise requirements.
The report examines a longstanding debate over on-device versus server-side storage of biometric templates. While handset-level storage is generally seen as privacy-protective, it can limit cross-device portability and enterprise security functions. Centralized storage supports policy enforcement and account recovery, but introduces higher risk through concentration of sensitive data. Keyless promotes a decentralized biometric architecture that applies cryptographic transformation on the user’s device and transmits only a derived artifact, which the company argues is not classified as biometric data under prevailing laws. According to the company, this approach reduces compliance burden while retaining manageability. Keyless also highlights multi-modal liveness detection to counter threats such as deepfakes and spoofing.
Acuity’s report places these technical questions in the context of broader market drivers, noting that privacy, compliance, and resistance to AI-driven fraud are increasingly linked in enterprise procurement. Keyless’ positioning in the Prism reflects a demand for authentication systems that limit raw biometric collection while supporting step-up verification, recovery, and multi-jurisdictional deployment.
