Acuity Market Intelligence Launches Privacy and Compliance Prism Report Amid Growing Digital Identity Risks

Acuity Market Intelligence has released its latest study in the Prism series, a comprehensive report focused on privacy and compliance in biometric digital identity. The Biometric Digital Identity Privacy and Compliance Prism Report, published under The Prism Project, outlines frameworks and strategies to help enterprises, governments, and solution providers build privacy-first, compliance-ready identity systems in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.

The Privacy and Compliance Prism Report is the seventh installment in Acuity’s Prism series, following earlier analyses on financial services, government, and travel and tourism. It also builds on the June 2025 Deepfake and Synthetic Identity Prism Report, which examined the growing threat of AI-driven fraud. The new edition zeroes in on privacy and compliance, two of the most pressing concerns for digital identity stakeholders as biometric data, personally identifiable information (PII), and contextual data face rising exposure to exploitation and fraud.

“Privacy and compliance are not optional, they are the foundation of trustworthy digital identity,” said Maxine Most, founder of The Prism Project and Acuity Market Intelligence. “This report equips decision-makers with the frameworks and intelligence they need to protect individuals, future-proof compliance strategies, and foster a culture of trust in the identity economy.”

The report introduces an array of resources designed to make privacy-first practices actionable. Among them is a plain-language primer on biometric digital identity fundamentals, tracing how biometric authentication has evolved since its consumer adoption in 2013. It also includes an Identity Element Inventory, which categorizes the building blocks of digital identity by their privacy implications.

A core feature is the Prism Identity Hierarchy, a proprietary model showing how different layers of identity data interact and where vulnerabilities are most acute. This is paired with a global regulatory map detailing privacy laws and compliance requirements worldwide, from Europe’s General Data Protection Regulation to recent frameworks in Latin America, Africa, and Asia.

The Prism Lens, another proprietary tool, frames eight strategic challenges enterprises face when handling digital identity, such as fraud prevention, data minimization, and regulatory harmonization. Each challenge is paired with biometric-driven solutions, providing a blueprint for organizations to assess risks and adapt practices.

The report applies its findings across multiple sectors. In addition to financial services, government, and travel and hospitality, this edition examines healthcare, retail, ecommerce, the gig economy, and emerging markets such as cryptocurrency and gaming. Each is evaluated through the lens of privacy risk, compliance pressure, and reliance on biometric-centric solutions.

Vendor analysis forms another key element. The report evaluates more than 230 organizations, providing independent assessments of their approaches to privacy and compliance. It includes detailed profiles of companies advancing privacy-first solutions, such as secure biometric storage, passwordless authentication, and mobile identity credentials.

Most emphasized that the stakes extend far beyond technology adoption. “Biometric digital identity sits at the heart of digital transformation, but without strong privacy and compliance practices, identity data remains vulnerable to misuse, fraud, and synthetic exploitation,” she said. “This report is a call to action for enterprises, governments, and solution providers to take a privacy-first approach, empowering people, building trust, and ensuring security in every identity transaction.”

The release follows a series of high-profile Prism publications, including the 2024 flagship industry report, which projected biometric transactions would reach trillions by 2028. By focusing on the principles of privacy-first identity design, the new report positions itself as both a technical resource and a strategic guide for leaders navigating a fast-changing regulatory and threat environment.

Acuity Market Intelligence confirmed that its annual flagship Prism Report will be published in November of 2025, offering a broader update on industry-wide digital identity trends.
