Keyless has officially received eIDAS certification for its Identity Proofing Services, becoming one of the first biometric authentication providers recognized as an Identity Proofing Service Provider (IPSP) under the EU’s digital identity regulatory framework. The certification, issued by Italy’s national accreditation body through CSQA Certificazioni Srl, confirms that Keyless meets two key European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) standards: TS 119 461 and EN 319 401.

The development is a major milestone not only for Keyless, but also for the wider ecosystem of digital identity wallet providers building toward the European Union’s ambitious goals under the eIDAS 2.0 regulation. By certifying that Keyless’s identity proofing solution meets EU requirements, the designation allows wallet providers and government agencies to integrate the company’s biometric authentication technology without undergoing additional audits—streamlining onboarding and deployment processes across the continent.
“We’re constantly expanding our core privacy-preserving biometrics to work in the context of EU eIDAS requirements,” said Paolo Gasti, Co-Founder and CTO of Keyless. “This accreditation is a formal validation of our technology, giving EU governments and organizations additional peace of mind when using our solutions.”
The eIDAS 2.0 regulation, formally adopted in 2023, mandates that every EU member state offer its citizens a European Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI Wallet) by 2026. These digital wallets will allow individuals to store and selectively share verified credentials—such as national IDs, health insurance numbers, or educational qualifications—across borders in both public and private sector contexts.
In March, the European Commission unveiled a Digital Business Wallet initiative, extending this vision to enterprises and further underscoring the need for interoperable, secure, and privacy-compliant identity proofing services. As a result, stakeholders throughout Europe have been seeking scalable, certified technologies capable of supporting high-assurance authentication scenarios.
The certification of Keyless as an IPSP is a significant contribution to this effort, as the company offers a biometric solution that verifies users’ identities without storing or processing their raw biometric data, using privacy-preserving cryptographic techniques instead. This architecture aligns with the EU’s values of data minimization and privacy by design—both core principles under eIDAS.
Keyless’s certification comes on the heels of a string of strategic achievements. In February, the company launched a browser-based biometric authentication SDK, enabling developers to integrate passwordless authentication directly into web applications with minimal friction. The SDK builds on Keyless’s foundational technology, which has already been validated through participation in the NIST Face Recognition Vendor Test (FRVT), where the company made a strong debut.
Late last year, Keyless announced a $2 million funding round aimed at expanding its go-to-market efforts and enhancing product development. That round was followed by the company winning a top security award for its Biometric Authentication Bridge, a solution designed to integrate biometric security into existing IAM (Identity and Access Management) frameworks.
Together, these developments paint a picture of a rapidly maturing company positioning itself at the intersection of biometrics, compliance, and digital identity infrastructure.
The ETSI TS 119 461 standard defines the technical specifications for identity proofing in high-assurance contexts, while EN 319 401 outlines general policy and security requirements for trust service providers. By meeting both, Keyless is now recognized as meeting the highest levels of compliance under eIDAS.
In addition to eIDAS certification, the company maintains ISO certifications across data security, quality management, biometric performance, and presentation attack detection, including ISO 27001, ISO 9001, ISO 30107, ISO 19795, and FIDO Biometrics certification.
Keyless’s recognition as a certified Identity Proofing Service Provider now clears the way for widespread adoption within the EU’s emerging identity infrastructure. As EUDI Wallet pilots advance and governments prepare for the 2026 rollout, technologies like Keyless’s privacy-preserving biometrics could become foundational to how citizens authenticate and interact online in the years ahead.
