Kensington Launches New Biometric Security Key for Windows Computers

Kensington has released its latest VeriMark security key. The VeriMark Desktop Fingerprint Key (K62330WW) is designed specifically for desktop computers that run on the Windows operating system, and is fully compatible with major Microsoft platforms like Windows Hello, Office365, Azure, and Outlook.

Like previous VeriMark models, the new key comes with a built-in fingerprint sensor for biometric authentication, allowing users to gain access to various applications (including the aforementioned Microsoft applications) without needing to enter a password. The USB device can store as many as 10 individual prints on the sensor itself, and connects to the computer through a 3.9-foot cable. The solution is also built to the latest FIDO standards, enabling biometric authentication in web browsers through the WebAuthn protocol.

Other features include a Tap-and-Go utility that lets users place a finger on the key to turn it into a security token, and anti-spoofing technology that prevents unauthorized individuals from using the device. The VeriMark has a two percent False Rejection Rate, and a False Acceptance Rate of only 0.001 percent.

The new key arrives four years after the first VeriMark, which debuted in 2017. Kensington believes that the updated model is particularly well suited to enterprise applications, noting that businesses can use it to comply with international privacy regulations like GDPR and the Biometric Information Privacy Act in Illinois.
