Katai has integrated the SAFR computer vision platform into its BlueJay 360 video conferencing device. SAFR’s tech will allow the BlueJay to recognize every single person sitting at a table, moving the camera in real time to focus on the person speaking.
With safer, the BlueJay will essentially function like an automated cameraman, directing the viewer’s attention to the most relevant action at any given time. Those participating remotely will have a smoother viewing experience, with a platform that automatically registers new participants and frames and zooms in on individual speakers.
“SAFR’s world-class AI provides extraordinary performance and responsiveness,” said Katai Executive Chairman Perry LaForge. “We’re excited to leverage the SAFR SDKs to unlock a much-improved experience for our customers.”
Though SAFR is best known for its facial recognition tech, the company indicated that the Katai deployment only utilizes person detection to mark the presence of people in the room. The solution does not use any personally identifiable information. Katai expects the BlueJay to have applications in smart cities and retail in addition to video conferencing.
For SAFR, the team-up comes several months after parent company RealNetworks brought on a new CRO in an effort to boost sales for the platform. SAFR also formed a partnership with Digifort earlier this year.
