Computer vision specialist Kami has announced the availability of its new smart video doorbell, the Kami Doorbell Camera, powered by edge computing technology and advanced AI, and equipped with human detection and facial recognition capabilities.
The WiFi-enabled Kami Doorbell Camera uses AI algorithms for its human detection and biometric facial recognition features, and is able to authenticate individuals and notify users when someone is at their door, while also being able to store facial data in a private Face Album, which can then be used to review past footage of who has been at the door at any given time.
“The Kami Doorbell Camera was inspired by a greater need for safety and peace of mind as people spend more time at home and consumers’ increasing desire to reside in smart homes,” said Yamin Durrani, CEO of Kami. “However, we noticed one gaping hole in the smart doorbell market — it was lacking an extremely advanced security solution that also puts the user in complete control of their privacy. In designing our video doorbell camera we considered all the ways people live in their homes to elegantly combine accelerated intelligence with a level of customization and privacy that is unmatched in today’s market.”
Other security features include the ability to stream or record live video footage, and a two-way conversation feature that can be used to ward off any potential intruders – all handy features that aim to position the Kami Doorbell Camera in a smart home security market that is forecasted to grow to $81 billion by the year 2027.
Face-scanning doorbells have been growing in popularity for the past couple of years, with tech giant Google releasing its Nest Hello smart doorbell in the UK market back in 2018. Since then, a number of companies have also launched facial recognition-capable doorbells.
Rounding out the list of features for the Kami Doorbell Camera is a 1080P HD wide angle lens that allows for 140.5 degrees of viewing, night vision capabilities, outdoor durability, and 150-day battery life.
