The largest airport in Jordan is the latest major transportation hub to introduce streamlined passenger processing technologies, having begun its trial of a new biometric solution.
In collaboration with Royal Jordanian Airlines, Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) in Amman is trialing facial recognition technology at self check-in kiosks and boarding gates for select Royal Jordanian flights to Istanbul, Turkey.
“We are thrilled to try [a] biometric check-in solution that improves customer service, makes the flying experience more hassle free and ensures safer travel during the current pandemic,” said Royal Jordanian Airlines Vice Chairman and CEO, Samer Majali. “Our endeavour to make travellers’ airport experience as smooth and as safe as possible is made possible by our longstanding partnership with Airport International Group. It is with pride that we carry out our role of national carrier of Jordan, and connect it with the rest of the world.”
QAIA is the latest in what is a rapidly growing list of airports throughout the world that are looking at the implementation of biometric solutions as a way to lure passengers back to a travel sector that has been devastated by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Biometrics are being used at travel hubs to provide more touchless and hygienic experiences for passengers while also being utilized to expedite the flow of people through some of the most crowded and busy facilities in the world.
“With airports worldwide shifting towards such transformational technologies, we welcome the initiative of the pilot biometric solutions on select Royal Jordanian Airlines flights, at QAIA,” said Airport International Group CEO, Nicolas Claude. “As the operator of QAIA, we are keen to assess the conditions for future deployment of such technologies at Jordan’s prime gateway to the world and remain up to speed on future travel requirements, so we can present to passengers a faster and more streamlined contactless journey.”
