Japanese IT Firm Brings BioSig-ID Gesture Recognition to VR Payments

A major Japan-based IT company has started experimenting with gesture-based authentication technology from Biometric Signature ID (BioSig-ID).

The IT firm in question is TIS, headquartered in Tokyo, and counting a consolidated workforce of just under 20,000 employees. The company has recently been exploring approaches to implementing a payment system in Virtual Reality settings, where a major technical obstacle is the User Interface. That’s where BioSig-ID’s unique authentication system, which revolves around end users’ gesture patterns, offers a solution.

TIS engineers integrated BioSig-ID’s technology into a prototype VR payments system, and demoed it at the recent 16th Annual JCB World Conference. In a blog post describing the project, TIS said the authentication system “realized 99.97% protection against imposters” and delivered “98% true user approval.”

At the JCB World Conference, the demo proved to be a hit, with TIS asserting that its team “received great feedback” and are convinced that the system offers a real solution for seamless VR payments. The company added that it’s now looking for partners for real world deployments.
