ISC West 2015: SIA Recognizes SRI’s Biometrics

ISC West 2015: SRI Iris Biometrics Recognized With SIA Award — A look at KEES from the exhibition floor of ISC West.

Yesterday at ISC West 2015, the Security Industry Association (SIA) recognized the standout security solutions presented at the New Products Showcase (NPS). Among the solutions granted awards was KEES: the new residential door lock system from Korea Technology and Communications (KT&C) which features iris recognition technology from SRI International.

KEES came away from the showcase winning the Locks/Safes/Hardware category. The security solution is a push-pull door handle featuring SRI’s Iris On the Move (IOM) technology. Because IOM can capture and match iris images from a glance, the biometric security acts as a passive authentication system, invisible to all but those denied access to the room behind the locked door.

When reached for comment, Steve Perna, executive director of SRI’s Products and Solutions Division, said: “SRI strives to deliver iris authentication products that are easy to use and viable for a broader range of market applications. It is rewarding to have our efforts recognized by the SIA.”

Upon the announcement of KEES, SRI’s president of its Products and Services Division, Mark Clifton spoke about the aim of collaborating with KT&C. “By collaborating with KT&C, we are incorporating leading iris biometric technology in a residential door lock for unparalleled convenience and security,” he said. “KEES marks a new level of access control for the residential sector. It demonstrates the growing viability of iris biometrics for more market applications.”

This years’ New Product Showcase saw 110 solutions, only 25 of which were granted an award. Earlier today FindBiometrics reported on Morpho (Safran)’s wining of the Best New Product award.
